On a Sunday to remember for the unfortunate injury to Ronald Acuna Jr., the Atlanta Braves farm system split four games on the day. Three-hit games from Cade Bunnell, Bryson Worrell, and Nick Ward led the way as well as solid outings on the mound from Dylan Dodd and Cade Koehler. However the biggest story on the farm on Sunday was probably the continuation of Sean Murphy’s rehab assignment in Gwinnett.

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3, Gwinnett Stripers 1

Box Score

Statcast

  • David Fletcher, 2B: 2-3, BB, R, .248/.320/.278
  • Dylan Dodd, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 4.42 ERA
  • Zach Logue, RP: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 2.45 ERA

Dylan Dodd made the start and was solid through five innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts - but took the loss anyway. Zach Logue followed with four very strong innings out of the pen, giving up just one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Combined the Dodd and Logue duo allowed three runs on 11 hits, no walks, and five strikeouts.

Facing former Braves prospect Roddery Munoz the Stripers offense was completely shut down on Sunday afternoon. David Fletcher was two for three with a walk and scored the lone run for the team. Beyond Flecher, singles by Luke Williams and Luke Williams as well as a double by Forrest Wall accounted for all of the Gwinnett hits. Williams, who also walked in the loss, reached base twice on the day. In his rehab start Sean Murphy was hitless in four at bats with a strikeout, though he did provide the second hardest hit ball in the game at 103.7 MPH.

Mississippi Braves 6, Chattanooga Lookouts 5

Box Score

  • Justin Dean, CF: 2-4, BB, RBI, R, 2 SB, .263/.355/.364
  • Cade Bunnell, RF: 3-4, 2 2B, 3 R, RBI, .194/.351/.274
  • Nacho Alvarez, DH: 1-4, RBI, SB, .278/.388/.331

We got a bullpen game in this one and it started off with Jake McSteen giving up a pair of runs in three innings of work. McSteen was followed by three innings from Landon Harper, who allowed three runs during those three innings. Jonathan Hughes picked up the win during a pair of scoreless innings, and Jorge Juan got a save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Justin Dean and Cade Bunnell powered the Braves offense to a win on Sunday, as the pair accounted for five hits and four runs. Bunnell was three for four, with a pair of doubles, a run batted in, and three runs scored, while Dean was two for four with a walk, run, RBI, and a pair of stolen bases. Those Bunnell doubles ended up being all of the Braves extra-base hits minus a double off the bat of Cal Conley. Among the notable prospects Nacho Alvarez was one for four with an RBI and added a steal of his own, while Drake Baldwin was hitless in four at at bats, but walked and picked up an RBI.

Rome Emperors 8, Wilmington Blue Rocks 7

Box Score

  • Sabin Ceballos, DH: 1-4, BB, .269/.377/.336
  • Ambioris Tavarez, SS: 0-2, 2 BB, 3 R, .182/.296/.277
  • Bryson Worrell, RF: 3-4, HR, RBI, 2 R, SB, .213/.300/.361
  • Nick Ward, 3B: 3-3, BB, 4 RBI, .250/.391/.293

Jhancarlos Lara got the start and wasn’t able to last two innings, going an inning and two thirds and allowing four runs on five hits and a pair of walks. Tyree Thompson was next and he went on to allow two runs during two innings, before two and a third scoreless from Shay Schanaman and then two scoreless from Chad Bryant. Jared Johnson came in to pick up the save after allowing one run during the ninth inning.

Bryson Worrell and Nick Ward led the offense in this one, with each of the two collecting three hits. Worrell was three for four with a homer, stolen base, and a pair of runs scored. Ward was a perfect three for three with a walk, and added four RBI on the day. Among the notable prospects Ambioris Tavarez was hitless in two at bats, but drew two walks and plated three runs, and Sabin Ceballos was one for four with a walk.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 10, Augusta GreenJackets 1

Box Score

  • Drew Compton, DH: 2-4, 2B, R, .300/.421/.423
  • Will Verdung, 1B: 1-4, 2B, RBI, .190/.326/.238
  • Cade Kuehler, SP: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 3.60 ERA

Despite the final score saying 10-1. this game was actually much closer than that. Heading into the seventh inning Kannapolis was clinging to a 2-1 lead - until a run in the seventh, three in the eighth, and four more in the ninth made this one look uglier than it really was. Cade Kuehler made the start and allowed two runs in four innings, giving up three hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Koehler was followed by Cory Wall for three innings, and Wall allowed one run on four hits and a pair of walks. That’s where things started to fall apart however, as Juan Sanchez allowed three runs while recording just two outs and Adel Dilone gave up four runs over an inning of work, before Giomar Diaz came in to face one batter and pick up the final out for the GreenJackets.

The Augusta offense was just never able to get going in this one outside of Drew Compton. Compton has quietly had a nice year to this point, and was two for four with a double and the lone run scored in this game. Unfortunately those Compton hits accounted for half of the team’s total, as a double by Will Verdung and a Leiker Figueroa single were the remainder of the hits. Among the prospects Isaiah Drake was hitless in four at bats out of the leadoff spot.
