In an awards ceremony held tonight in Las Vegas, Atlanta Braves All-Star and unanimous 2023 National League Most Valuable Player Ronald Acuña, Jr. was awarded the National League’s Hank Aaron award as the best offensive player in the league.

Acuña, Jr. had a historic 2023 campaign offensively, posting 8.3 fWAR during a season in which he became the first player in MLB history to hit 40-or-more home runs and steal 70-or-more bases in the same year.

All totaled, Acuña, Jr. had a 170 wRC+ and a 168 OPS+ after batting .337 with a .416 on-base percentage, a .596 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.1012. He collected 217 hits, 35 doubles, four triples and slugged 41 home runs while driving in 106 runs and scoring 149 times. He also stole 73 bases and walked 80 times - only four less that the number of strikeouts he accrued during the season.

Acuña, Jr. led the National League in plate appearances, at bats, runs, hits, stolen bases, on base percentage, OPS, OPS+ and total bases.

Along with the 2023 NL MVP award, Acuña, Jr. was also named a Silver Slugger and the 2023 TSN Major League Player of the Year. He was named the NL Player of the Month three times during the 2023 season (April, June, September).

The Hank Aaron Award was established in 1999 to honor the best offensive player in each league. A fan vote and panel of Hall of Famers determine the award winners.

Acuña, Jr. is third Brave bestowed this honor joining fellow franchise icons Freddie Freeman (2020) and Andruw Jones (2005).
